Police Department Officer

The City of Willmar, Minnesota, is accepting applications for the position of police officer.  Applicants who are bilingual in  Spanish-English or Somali-English are encouraged to apply.

The City of Willmar is a growing community, with a population of approximately 19,610, located in west central Minnesota.  The city serves as a regional center for healthcare, education, trade, and employment, and offers outdoor recreational opportunities year-round. 

The Willmar Police Department has 40 employees, with 32 sworn positions, providing many diverse assignments, competitive salary, benefit package, and a professional work environment.  The current contract salary range is $42,765 to $59,051.  Additional benefits include ten paid holidays, up to 25 days paid vacation, paid health care, life insurance, uniform allowance, and excellent overtime opportunities, among others. 

In order to be considered for employment, the applicant must meet one of the criteria listed below:

1.         Be a licensed, full-time police officer in Minnesota; or

2.         Be a full-time certified police officer in another state meeting the Minnesota reciprocity requirements; or

3.         Be eligible to be licensed as a full-time police officer in Minnesota by time of appointment.

Applicants must pass a written examination scheduled for either 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, or 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Kandiyohi County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at 2201 23rd Street NE, in Willmar.
